Lisandro DiPasquale: New Comics on the Way

New comics on the way: "I know that latelly I seem to have left the art a little on the side here, that is just poor planing on my end. I have been working extensibly on my art. Just after finishing HTSWR#2 I did 'The Island' for Hadron, and then started right away with HTSWR#3. That it´s complete on pencils, and the inking starts right now.

Here you have a couple of pages as a small teaser.



There you go, giant robots and supermarkets, WHAT´S NOT TO LIKE?!?!

It also came to my mind the idea of working with Brian Wood in THE DMZ, I think that my art could fit the story. Maybe we should lobby to get me some work with him.

Sidekick 2010

Sidekick 2010: "Ya casi ha pasado un año desde la presentación oficial de Sidekick en Montevideo Cómics 2009, pero como todo proyecto nacional que se precie de tal, no podía estar ajeno a los contratiempos.

Sidekick 2.0

Parte del grupo original del proyecto aun continúa en carrera al igual que las historias que habían dejado vislumbrar a modo de pantallazo, como para ir haciendo boca. La formación del taller Comic Club -con sede en el INJU-, sirvió para conocer a nuevos y talentosos jóvenes que finalmente se fueron sumando al equipo creativo, aportando ideas frescas y estilos diferentes.

Es fundamental la estricta dirección de Ignacio Calero para que la maquinaria siga funcionando, a veces en su rol de artista, otras en su faceta ejecutiva y cada tanto asumiendo la imagen paterna del grupo cuando se pierde el rumbo.

En este primer número se publicarán 'Martillo de Brujas' y 'Los Ajusticiadores', historias que se habían concebido desde el principio y 'Horuk: La saga del Dios Halcón' que se fue desarrollando durante el taller de cómics a lo largo de 5 meses.

Sidekick: Last Stand
El sábado 15 de mayo el equipo de Sidekick estará dando un charla en la sala de conferencias de Montevideo Cómics (¡sí, la escalinata!), donde mostrarán bocetos y diferentes etapas de la producción, además de responder a las preguntas de los más curiosos.
Ese mismo fin de semana se pondrá a la venta el primer número en el stand Nº 32, así que aprovechen para conseguir los primeros ejemplares autografiados.

Before we start this one there are two things you need to know and understand; one: Montevideo is not a very big city or your typical mega city for a country’s capital, two: the concept of a gallery. Here in South America we have a lot of these places, they are like a shopping strip with lots of stores one next to the other, they are very convenient but their size is not big, at least not big enough to call them a shopping mall.

Back in the day I used to shop here all the time, specially when I was living in the city. Today the store has a different stock than in those days. For instance, back then they used to carry lots of American comics and magazines straight from the previews, today they just carry some graphic novels in English. They still have a ton of stuff in the bins, 90% of it in Spanish of course. This includes DC and Marvel comics from Panini and Planeta and almost all the manga published by Ivrea. The store it’s rather small but in the recent time they managed to add a second floor to fit the manga. One thing to have in mind when going to this store is that they carry mostly super heroes, if you are looking for Non-super hero European comic you might need to look somewhere else. They lack merchandising also, there are no statues or collectibles of any kind, maybe you can get one or two action figures, but they cater to your comic book needs more than anything else.

If you are visiting the city make a pause while looking for leathery goods and take a walk to this little store located just blocks away from Independence Square. The attention is very friendly, ask for Fernando while in there, he will take care of you.

Alejandro Colucci: Epica Prima

Official website of Alejandro Colucci. This is the result of three months of planning and dedication to try and consolidate many years of hard work. We sweated but enjoyed collecting a large amount of material. Some old pieces have been revisited and we especially wanted to include the artwork of recent years.

Born in Uruguay in 1966, to a family of Italian immigrants, Alejandro has been working in the advertising and publishing market as an illustrator and graphic designer since 1990.

In 2002, he decided to move to Spain with his wife Daniela and their beloved children Romina and Bruno. They now live in a hill-side house outside Barcelona, in harmony with nature and a lot of cats.

His book cover artwork and illustrations have been printed by several publishing companies in Spain, USA, France, Italy, Poland, Norway, Germany and Portugal.
Alejandro works with both techniques: traditional and digital.

'Gravely ill' Eduardo Barreto leaves Judge Parker strip [Updated]

Judge ParkerLongtime comics artist Eduardo Barreto is 'gravely ill,' forcing him to leave Judge Parker, the daily newspaper strip he's drawn since 2006Michael Cavna reports that strips drawn by 'a temporary replacement' will begin appearing next week as King Features Syndicate searches for a new artist.Barreto, who's in his mid-50s, has meningitis. 'Two weeks ago -- this came on suddenly -- he had to go to the hospital,' longtime Judge Parker writer Woody Wilson told Cavna. 'Eduardo sent us a note saying he wouldn't be able to continue.'Barreto, who lives in his native Montevideo, Uruguay, is widely known for his work on DC Comics' The New Teen Titans and The Shadow Strikes, Dark Horse's The Escapists and Marvel's Marvel Knights.Update: Alan Gardner talked to King Features comics editor Brendan Burford, who said that Barreto isn't 'officially' being replaced.
